Main airports in Bulgaria
The main and largest airport is Sofia Airport (SOF) in the capital city. The international airport provides flights to the major European towns and other Bulgarian cities. It welcomes more than 9 million passengers per year.
However, most visitors arrive at Bulgaria’s coastal airports, Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR). The reason for this is due to the increasing popularity of holiday resorts such as Sunny Beach, Nessebar (near Burgas) and Golden Sands Albena (near Varna).
Plovdiv Airport (PDV) is the 4th busiest airport, particularly during the winter season for its nearby ski resorts Pamporovo, Borovets and Bansko.
